Thursday Scouts

All About Thursday Scouts

Thursday Scouts has been running for a number of years.  It has a lively programme of activities which mixes  traditional scouting activities with very modern activities.  We are not afraid of trying out new ideas.  We reguarly consult the scouts for the activities they want to do.  During the summer we try and be outside as much as possible.

Autumn 2009 Update From Thursday Scouts

This term is nearly over but we have had a very busy few months with quite a few activities outside.   The term started with a walk on Churchdown hill where a few scouts managed to do some very creative map reading.

Aerial Runway

On Saturday 6th November Thursday Scouts built an aerial runway at the Scout hall.   This was built between two trees in the grounds of the hall.  It took quite a bit of time to set up as it involved threading lots of pulleys for tightening the main line, hammering stakes into the ground for anchoring, and constructing two independent breaking systems. Most of the Scouts learned how to do some lashings, tie various knots and also the basics of how pulleys work.

After it was constructed all the scouts (and leaders) had a go and it was great fun.
