IntroductionWelcome to the website of First Hatherley Scout Group. The group is situated in Hatherley in Cheltenham and currently has 120 Beaves, Cubs and Scouts in 2 Beaver colonies, 3 cub packs and 2 Scout troops. County Rifle ShootingCongratulations to the three teams taking part in the county air rifle shooting competition. Hatherley teams came first, second, and fourth, with Shurdingon coming third. In addition, a Hatherley Scout achieved the highest personal score! This is an excellent achievement for the Scouts, and for Frank for his instruction over the term. Group Camp 2010In July around 80 young people along with a team of leaders, explorers, helpers and parents spent the weekend at Cranham Scout Campsite. A wide range of activities were enjoyed including archery, badge making, backwoods cooking, pioneering, the assault course, rifle shooting, the traverse wall, orienteering, and a evening walk. March 2011 UpdateSince the flooding over Christmas, we have finally got the scout hall back to full use. The hall has been painted with thanks to Piccolo bears and the side boxes were done with help of two scouts. The boxes do need another coat, which will be done in the main holidays. Both the Committee room and the toilets were painted by parents - Thank you! 50th Aniversary
Hatherley Scouts celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008. During the year we ran various special events to celebrate it. As part of the celebration we held a competition to design a badge. The design was eventually the combination of a couple of beavers designs. Air Rifle ClubWe are starting an Air Rifle Club for members of the Scout section (Tuesday or Thursday). It will be held on Saturday mornings (at the moment) with a qualified instructor to run it. For more details contact Frank. Narrow Boat Trip 2010In August, 10 Scouts and 2 leaders loaded then set off in the mini bus to Lichfield to start their week on the narrow boat "Centenary" travelling along the canals to the centre of Birmingham. The boys took control of the boat, doing the locks and all the steering. All scouts achieved their Power Coxswain badge. Additionally, one received their Plus and one received their Instructors. All had a very enjoyable week. Air Rifle ClubWe are running an air rifle shooting club again this term. We have a training session each Saturday. All the scouts are improving each week and on the 13th March we will enter 3 teams in the county shooting competition. We wish them all good luck. Pioneering GrantThanks to an application submitted by three Scouts, Hatherley have received a grant from the Gloucestershire Youth Parliament Youth Capital Fund. The grant has allowed us to purchase a set of ropes, pulleys, etc which will enable us to construct rope bridges, aerial runways, etc. Rifle Club - County Competition ResultsEven though our rifle club has only been going a short time I am very pleased with their performance at the recent County Shooting Competition. Out of 30+ teams we came 5th and 6th. The club has 9 shooting members and we will start a new course after Easter . We meet most Saturdays in the hall 9.00-11.00 and all instructors are members of the National Smallbore Rifle Association. Contact frank@hatherleyscouts.org.uk for more information. |
